Development Cluster

The development “Cluster” is 3 Linux workstations that run Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 with Proxmox VE 9 bolted on top. Storage is local on each host and not redundant. The hosts back up any VMs to the production Proxmox Backup Server.

GMKTec Evo-X2 Mini PC

  • AMD Ryzen AI 9 395+ CPU (16 Zen 5 Cores / 32 Threads)
  • 128GB LPDDR5-8000 RAM (96GB CPU / 32GB GPU)
  • 2 x 4TB NVME Gen 4 SSDs (8TB Total Storage)
  • AMD Radeon 8060S integrated Graphics (Similar to an Nvidia 4070)
  • 2.5Gbit Network Connectivity.

Minisforum HX90 Mini PC

  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU (8 Zen 3 Cores / 16 Threads)
  • 64GB DDR4-3200 RAM
  • 2 x 2TB NVME Gen 3 SSDs (4TB Total Storage)
  • Integrated Radeon Graphics.
  • 2.5 GBit Network Connectivity

Minisforum MC560 Mini PC

  • AMD Ryzen 5 5625U CPU (6 Zen 3 Cores / 12 Threads)
  • 64GB DDR4-3200RAM
  • 1 x 2TB NVME Gen 3 SSD QLC (2TB Total Storage)
  • Integrated Graphics.
  • Integrated 1440p Camera and Mic that can be routed to a VM if desired.
  • 2.5 Gbit Network Connectivity via USB-C adapter

Power:

All of my computers are on a UPS. Since these are dev they generally share a UPS with other PCs that aren’t in the cluster.

Overall Dev Cluster Specifications:

Copmpute: 26 Cores / 52 threads though the generation is mixed between Zen 5 and Zen 3 which can make moving VMs between them more challenging if you don’t limit VMs on the Zen 5 host to Zen 3 capabilities.
Memory: 224GB RAM. The ram type is mixed. LPDDR5-8000 is much faster than DDR4-3200. Also These are workstations so they will be running other stuff besides VMs.
Storage: 14TB total storage. Each host is isolated and the storage isn’t redundant. This doesn’t matter for a Dev cluster but its something to note.
Backup Storage: These use the same Proxmox Backup Server as the Production Cluster so they share the 11.74TB of backup storage with produciton.
